Why I Won’t Buy the Bottega Veneta Chain Cassette Bag (but here are discount codes if you want it!)

I’ve been mum for months on this and many of you have been asking whether or not I’ll be purchasing the Bottega Veneta (BV) Chain Cassette Bag. The short answer is no. If you’d like to know why, keep on reading… and if by the end you still have your heart set on the bag, I totally get it! I’ve been there where people think it’s just a trend, but it makes my heart and wardrobe sing so I go for it…. If that’s the camp you’re in, I’ve researched the cheapest prices for you and a promo code for 15% off your order to help out!

First, let me begin by saying that looking at the cassette chain bag from afar, it catches my eye and I do like it at first glance. I liked it so much so that I was on the verge of purchasing one had I not taken a few breaths and a step back to think it through…. Do I reaaaaalllyyyyy love this bag, or are genius marketing tactics telling me I love this bag? Like, honestly…. Do I love it “$3800 plus” love it? That’s when I snapped out of the season’s “it bag” trend magnet! So no, I won’t be buying it, and here is why:

The bag’s exaggerated intrecciato design simply isn’t speaking to me. I have always been a fan of the hand woven artistic signature element to the BV bags. However, the exaggerated version feels to me like it was done in a hurry. It takes away the tightly woven minuscule squares that is very attractive to me in the house’s other – more classic – designs.

  • The bags chains are too heavy. I’ve personally drawn the limit at the weight and size of my Chanel 19 large which comes in much lighter than that of BV… and even those are HEAVY! Reminder, I sold my maxi Chanel 19 to Fashionphile as it was just too heavy to lug around. (Click here if you missed that post).
  • The interior bugs the hell out of me. The BV Chains are secured onto the bag with these annoying looking buttons on the inside that just scream sloppy to me. I’m surprised this was permitted to pass BV design team…. being as the brand was meticulous for clean perfection.

  • Back to the bag chains, they don’t look inviting to me…. they remind me too much of chainlink barriers.
  • And most of all, it’s just a trend and the price doesn’t justify the look. It’s already hitting the secondhand market at a noticeably lower price than retail.
This bag on the secondhand market is NEW…. and $695 cheaper than retail. I expect to see lightly used bags at $1000 and below retail.

In the event you are in love with the Bottega Veneta Chain Cassette Bag and want to find the best deal on it, I’ve found a couple options to save you money!
